Disintegrating Material

Wouldn't be great if all products were built with a shelf life, and when the shelf life was up products would start to deteriorate and disintegrate? We have biodegradable plastic, so why not make it mandatory for such daily disposables as food wrappers and containers? Packaging material doesn't need to be toxic. Larger items such as stereos and tvs, other electronics and appliances could be reused for some parts, while other components that could not be reused would be made of a non-toxic disintegrating material.

Biodegradable plastic isn't really biodegradable.....yet. If you put it in your backyard compost pile or a landfill it lasts as long as regular plastic. Its also 10X more expensive and uses more natural resources to manufacture. It is only biodegradable at temperatures above 140 F and in the presence of certain microorganisms. The professional compost facilities don't accept from consumers.....But it is still early in the game.
I am sure a solution is not far off.
